Đà Nẵng named green city of the year in Việt Nam

According to Việt Nam News, Đà Nẵng City has been given the title of National Green City 2017-18 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)’s One Planet City Challenge programme, making it onto a list of 21 cities from around the world.

Vice chairman of the city’s people’s committee, Nguyễn Ngọc Tuấn, said the award was a tribute to the city’s endeavours over past decades to commit to sustainable development.

da-nang-beach-hotel-dragon-bridge

Đà Nẵng, along with other cities in Việt Nam including Huế, Hội An and Đông Hà, entered the One Planet City Challenge programme in 2017 to show how cities can become hubs for creativity, ambition and innovation in dealing with climate change.

The four cites qualified out of 132 metropolises from 23 countries, but Đà Nẵng was finally selected for the award.

The city had submitted a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25 per cent from 2016, along with plans for solar power development, biofuel use, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes and wastewater treatment.

According to a WWF statement, cities generate 70 per cent of the world’s carbon emissions, and the WWF’s One Planet City Challenge was a biennial competition that recognised and rewarded cities for developing infrastructure, housing, transport and mobility solutions to power the global transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.

It said 50 per cent of the global population lived in urban areas, and cities would be home to about 6 billion people by 2050.

Đà Nẵng City is giving top priority to high-tech and clean technology investment projects to become a green city by 2025.

In 2012, Đà Nẵng City was selected for an Asia-Pacific Economic Co-Operation project along with 20 low-carbon model cities with energy-efficient technologies, smart grids and renewable power generation.

The city had cut 12,000 tonnes of carbon emissions through a pilot project of low-carbon models including battery-powered bicycles, renewable energy, a metro system and BRT.

Đà Nẵng City plans to build its first solar farm covering 6.7ha on the now-closed Khánh Sơn Landfill at a cost of $5 million, supplying 7.7 million kWh per year to the city’s power grid, and reducing nearly 5,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

The city has great renewable energy potential, with a 90km coastline, 2,000 hours of sunlight per year and an average wind speed of 3m per second.

According to the city’s Industry and Trade Department, around 30 per cent of the city’s population were using solar power for water heaters, while around 20 five-star hotels and resorts were using solar power water heating systems.

The European Commission (EC) has also agreed to fund the city $415,000 to install solar equipment at health centres and schools, as well as research into solar technology capacity and management.

Đà Nẵng City has also been operating 20 battery-powered cars to serve tourists on the Sơn Trà Peninsula since 2012.

Japanese Mitsubishi plans to co-operate with Đà Nẵng City in the production of battery-powered cars in the near future.

In 2016, the WWF recognised Huế City as Việt Nam’s National Earth Hour Capital 2016 as part of the highly selective global Earth Hour City Challenge.

The One Planet City Challenge was designed by the WWF to mobilise action and support from cities in global climate efforts, including the goals now set forth by the Paris Agreement. About 400 cities in the world have joined the programme since 2011.

Da Nang – Vietnam’s new economic dragon

According to Vietnamplus, the central city of Da Nang has been praised as Vietnam’s new economic dragon for its steady growth and global integration.

The compliment was made in an article by Bruno Philip Da Nang, nouveau dragon économique du Vietnam ( Da Nang , Vietnam ’s new economic dragon) published on August 26 in Le Monde – a French daily newspaper.

da-nang-beach-hotel-dragon-bridge

The article began by describing the unique architectural features of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge, which illustrates the legendary creature heading towards the sea, and commenting that it reflects the unstoppable development of the third largest economic hub in the country (after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City).

The article noted that between 2002 and 2012, Da Nang posted a strong average growth rate of 12.7 percent. The city is the terminal destination of the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) which passes through ASEAN nations including Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

The author wrote that the development of Da Nang is based on the expansion of industrialisation and exploration of its tourism potential.

Scores of economic zones have been set up in the outskirts, while luxurious hotels line the white sand beaches along the blue sea.

Last year, the city welcomed over 2,659,000 tourists, including 603,000 foreigners.

The port of Da Nang is also playing a major role in the area’s development. Over the past five years, the cargo flow has increased by 10 percent a year.

French investor Christian Leroux, whose Dacotex Group in Da Nang’s Hoa Khanh industrial zone now employs as many as 2,500 Vietnamese workers, has declared that he would invest in the city again without any hesitation.

Tien Sa tourist site – a ‘pristine fairy’ of city

Boasting pristine natural beauty, the Tien Sa tourist site is definitely one of the places you must visit when in Da Nang.

Located on Son Tra District’s Yiet Kieu Street, the site is just about 9 km northeast from the centre of the city. Nestled in the Son Tra natural conservation area, it is known for its legendary Mo Coi (Orphaned) Mountain and its poetic Duyen Thuy beach.

The site is in the shape of a mushroom with its head being the Son Tra Mountain and its stem being white sand.

The origin of the name ‘Tien Sa’ came from a legend associated with the beauty of the site.

da-nang-beach-hotel-KDL-Tien-Sa

Legend has it that due to being fascinated by the beauty of the Son Tra Mountain, fairies called for each other to descend to the Earth. They together admired majestic mountains, romantic streams, clear blue waters and soft white sands.

After that, the fairies left their wings onshore, wallowing in cool seawater and playing with waves until the evening. One fisherman, who felt in love with fairies’ beauty, hid behind the rocks to sneakily watch them every day. He, then, hid a wing in the cave. When the sunset was coming, fairies hastily fly to the sky. However, only one fairy could not find her wings and accepted to stay in the Earth with that man, having become a happy spouse.

Surrounded by beautiful scenery and wonderful fresh air, the tourist site offers an ideal setting for a relaxing vacation, together with the opportunity to participate in entertainment and outdoor activities. Included are jetskiing, para-gliding, electric lifebuoys, electric vehicles, and scuba diving. It is also a great place for campers and those who love boating, swimming, fishing or picnic activities.

Visitors also have a unique opportunity to enjoy fresh seafood dishes at an airy restaurant nearby which offers an amazing panoramic view of the scenery.

Within easy reach, there are also a number of beautiful sites nearby, including Da Den (Black Rock Area), Van Tourist Village, Dong Hai fish farm, Bai Bac (Northern Beach), and Bai Nam (Southern Beach). Visitors can also take sightseeing boat tours from the Han River to the Tien Sa Port and back in the same day.

Thanks to its pristine natural beauty, the Tien Sa tourist site will promise peaceful moments and unforgettable experience for all visitors.

PLACES TO VISIT IN DA NANG

Booking a tour to Hoi An ancient town, My Son holy land or taking a city tour around Danang or to other places of interests, contact our Reception for more details.

Hoi An ancient town – UNESCO World’s Heritage

da-nang-beach-hotel-hoianHoi An – the famous Ancient Town in Central Vietnam – is considered the famous place where in the world could remain such a christine ancient beauty after nearly 300 circles of the four seasons…

Just far away from the Danang Beach Hotel 25 km toward the southeast, Hoi An ancient town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site.

Since Hoi An is an Old Town, its places of interest are of full historically classical meaning and image. Hoi An symbol, the most popular remnant is the Japanese Covered Bridge (Chua Cau or Lai Vien Kieu), on Tran Phu Street. The bridge was constructed in the early 1600’s by the Japanese community. Tourists should spend time on visiting Quan Cong Temple, Musium of Culture… Many ancient style – oriented architects come here to have a direct look into the ancient houses of the town, among which are Phung Hung House, just west of the Japanese Bridge, Quan Thang House, or Tan Ky House. The design of the houses show how local architecture incorporated Japanese and Chinese influences. Cantonese Assembly Hall (Quang Dong), has a calm courtyard with ornate statuary. You could take a peek at the half-hidden back yard and its kitschy pastel dragon statues. Hokien (Fujian) Meeting Hall (Phuc Kien) and Chinese All-Community Meeting Hall (Trieu Chau), are also spanning the block. If you are Buddhist, there are a lot of pagodas to visit. Ong Pagoda, Quan Am Phat Tu Minh Huong Pagoda, etc. are premium places to get in.
Today, Hoi An is also known as a shopping paradise that attracts tourists towards its wonderful souvenirs, handicrafts, antique pieces, silk materials and art paintings, and so on.
It is easy to find transportation from Da Nang International Airport to Hoi An town. As Hoi An is pretty small, most tourists usually wander on foot or hire a bike to explore the town on their own.

Bana Hill Fantasy Park

da-nang-beach-hotel-banaWith its extensive outdoor and indoor themes, the world-class Fantasy Park of Da Nang’s Bana Hills Resort is an entertainment complex at the summit of Mt. Ba Na. It is the first of its kind in Viet Nam offering many entertaining and modern activities.

The route has 86 cabins, takes only 17 minutes to reach the top of the mountain and is capable of carrying 1,500 visitors per hour.

Guests staying at Danang Beach Hotel could have a visit to Bana Hill Fantasy Park by tours or just catch a taxi to go there and come back during the day…The site is just 45 minutes drive or around 40km west of Danang.

Ngũ Hành Sơn (The Marble Mountains)

da-nang-beach-hotel-marblemountainMarble Mountains (Ngũ Hành Sơn; “Five elements mountains”) is a cluster of five marble and limestone hills located in Ngu Hanh Son ward, south of Danang city in Central Vietnam. The five ‘mountains’ are named after the five elements: Kim (metal), Thủy (water), Mộc (wood), Hỏa (fire) and Thổ (earth).

All of the mountains have cave entrances and numerous tunnels, and it is possible to climb to the summit of one of the peaks. Several buddhist sanctuaries can also be found within the mountains, making this a famous tourist destination.

The area is famous for stone sculpture making and stone-cutting crafts, just a short distance or 5 minute drive from the hotel.

Sơn Trà peninsula and Linh Ứng pagoda

da-nang-beach-hotel-sontraSon Tra peninsula is 5km away from the center of Danang City to the North-East and is 693m high above sea level. Son Tra Mountain can be seen from every places of the city. It looks like a mushroom of which cap is Son Tra Mountain and stalk is a beautiful sandy beach that affords an ideal area for bathing, playing sports, fishing and swimming.

Quite pretty and with a good bit of naturalness, Son Tra peninsula is a good place for visitors to Danang.

Linh Ung pagoda

da-nang-beach-hotel-linhungLinh Ung pagoda faces to The Eastern sea, on the left is Cham Islands, on the right is Hai Van Mountain. Linh Ung-Bai But pagoda is considered as one of the biggest pagoda in Da Nang city in both of scale and architecture. This pagoda has a combination between modern style and traditional style. The main area has a large capacity and it is the most solemn place.

Especially, in Linh Ung-Bai But pagoda, there has Guan Yin statue that is considered as the highest statue in Vietnam (67 meters height approximately 30 stories). This statue put its back to the mountain, faces to the sea. Above the Guan Yin statue is Buddhahood statue with the height of 2 meters.

From here, you can contemplate the whole city, mountain and Son Tra peninsula. In addition, from the distance, you will see Ngu Hanh Son Mountain along with white sand-bank. The beautiful landscape creates a unique impression that you cannot find in any other places.

Cham Museum

da-nang-beach-hotel-linhungThe Museum’s first building was opened in 1919, but many Cham sculptures collected in Da Nang, Quang Nam and elsewhere were brought to the site over the preceding twenty years. The collection was begun by French archaelogists and experts from L’École Francaise d’Extrême Orient (EFEO). Some artefacts were sent to Paris and others to the Ha Noi and Sai Gon (now Ho Chi Minh City) museums, but many typical objects were left in Tourane (now Da Nang).

Cham Museum is located by Dragon Bridge (Cau Rong), at the intersection of Bach Dang-Tran Phu Street.

Mỹ Sơn holyland – UNESCO World’s Heritage

da-nang-beach-hotel-mysonThe My Son Sanctuary, 3 hours drive or 70km southwest of Danang, is a remarkable architectural ensemble that developed over a period of ten centuries. It presents a vivid picture of spiritual and political life in an important phase of the history of South-East Asia.

Being unique and without equal in Southeast Asia, its monuments are the most important constructions of the My Son civilization. The tower temples have a variety of architectural designs symbolizing the greatness and purity of Mount Meru, the mythical sacred mountain home of Hindu gods at the center of the universe, now symbolically reproduced on Earth in the mountainous homeland of the Cham people. They are constructed in fired brick with stone pillars and decorated with sandstone bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. Their technological sophistication is evidence of Cham engineering skills while the elaborate iconography and symbolism of the tower-temples give insight into the content and evolution of Cham religious and political thought.

Huế ancient capital – UNESCO World’s Heritage

da-nang-beach-hotel-HuecitadelHue, 2-hour drive from Danang is well known for its historic monuments, which have earned it a place in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. The seat of the Nguyen emperors was the Citadel, which occupies a large, walled area on the north side of the Perfume River. Inside the citadel was a Forbidden City where only the emperors, concubines, and those close enough to them were granted access, the punishment for trespassing was death. Today, little of the Forbidden City remains, though reconstruction efforts are in progress to maintain it as a historic tourist attraction.

A number of French-style buildings lie along the south bank of the Perfume River. Among them are Quoc Hoc High School, the oldest high school in Vietnam, and Hai Ba Trung High School.

Phong Nha – Ke Bang – UNESCO World’s Natural Heritage

da-nang-beach-hotel-phongnhaThe Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park has a system of natural and uniquely interesting water grottoes and is covered with thick jungle, as well as abundant wildlife and plants. The Park is also recognized by UNESSCO as a World Natural Heritage Site. Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is located in the middle of the Annamite Mountain Range, 40km from Dong Hoi, 500 km from Vietnam’s capital of Hanoi, and close to the Vietnam – Laos border, just several kilometers to the west.

The 2018 Cocofest, which is expected to attract 30,000 participants in total, wants to bring new experience of music to local youths under the theme “Laugh. Love. Live. Repeat”,

According to director Nguyen Viet Tu, Cocofest is hoped to become a cultural symbol of Da Nang, and turn the coastal city into a destination for superstars worldwide.

Besides music, the festival will also feature various sidelines activities, promising to entertain visitors.

Luis Fonsi took the world’s music by storm with his pop song “Despacito” (Slowly). The song was ranked fifth among the best Latin songs of all time by New York-based entertainment media brand Billboard last year.
