Various cultural activities to welcome in 2014

A wide range of cultural and sporting activities will be held in Da Nang over the next week to welcome in the New Year.

An LED lights festival and the New Year Countdown Party will take place on 31 December at the 29 March Square on 2 September Street.  The event will feature MC Thanh Bach along with such famous singers as Thu Minh, Tuan Hung, Kasim Hoang Vu, Phuong Vy, Van Mai Huong, and Noo Phuoc Thinh.

In addition, the first-ever “Decorations for the Festive Season” event is being held along Bach Dang Street from 27 December to 4 January.  Organised by the city’s branch of the Vietnam Brewery Limited, the event will showcase a giant LED sphere screen, with musical performances and 3D decorative lights.  A musical performance will also take place on Bach Dang Street tonight.

At present, the Cinema and Film Distribution Centre’s mobile team are screening numerous films in remote areas from 27 December - 4 January.  Many cultural and sporting activities are also being held in all districts across the city.

On 1 and 2 January, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will present flowers to welcome the first air and cruise ship passengers to set foot in the city in the New Year..

Numerous sporting events will be organised in January to link with the Tet Festival.  They include the 2014 Open Futsal Tournament, the Women’s Football Tournament, and the Da Nang Children's Football Championships, all to be held at the Tien Son Arena, the Tennis Tournament for the Elderly at the Care Centre for the Elderly, as well as sports competitions for school pupils at the Phan Chau Trinh and Le Quy Don senior high schools.

Apart from providing entertainment activities, some of the city's large supermarkets, like BigC Mall, Intimex, Co.op Mart, Metro, and Nguyen Kim are offering their shoppers up to 49% discount on numerous items.
