As part of the celebrations for its 30th birthday, Japan’s Peace Boat docked at Da Nang Port on Wednesday morning carrying 840 passengers.  30 of the visiting guests are Hibakusha, the survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki cities in Japan.

This is the 80th around the world voyage by the Peace Boat, a trip which is being titled “El Sistema Global Campaign - A Message of Peaceful Music”.

The Japanese passengers visited the photo exhibition entitled “The Effects of Agent Orange - Conscience and Justice” which is taking place at the Museum of Da Nang between 23 July and 12 August.  Most of them expressed their sadness about the pain suffered by Vietnamese AO victims which was caused by the US military during the war years.

They also visited the city’s care centres for AO victims and street children.  In addition, they participated in several local cultural exchange programmes and sporting activities.  These included playing friendly volleyball, football and badminton matches with local AO victims, taking part in a Viet Nam-Japan Cuisine Exchange programme and campfire, visiting an Ao Dai (traditional long dress) tailor, and taking a tour around the city.
