Master plan to develop tourism in south central coastal region

A seminar took place in Da Nang on Tuesday to announce a master plan, recently approved by the Prime Minister, to accelerate the development of the tourism sector in the south central coastal region towards 2020 with a vision towards 2030.  Discussions focussed on identifying effective ways to ensure that sea and island tourism would play a vital role in levering the progress of the country’s tourism sector.  

The region consists of Da Nang and the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.  Under the master plan, the region is aiming to welcome about 15 million visitors by 2020, 4.5 million of whom will be foreigners.  By 2030, the figure is expected to jump to about 25 million visitors, including 7.5 million foreigners.  The regional tourism sector will strive to earn an estimated 70 trillion VND in revenue by 2020 and 160 trillion VND by 2030.

The Deputy Minister for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mrs Dang Thi Bich Lien, remarked that the region is striving to reach its target of developing tourism into an important economic sector of the regional economic structure by 2020 and a spearhead economic sector by 2030. 

The Deputy Head of the Viet Nam Institute for Tourism Development Research, Dr Pham Trung Luong, highly appraised Da Nang for its great efforts in developing its tourism sector over recent years.  He added that Da Nang is blessed with a favourable geographical position and of being the Pacific gateway for other localities in the region.  In addition to its international airport and its natural resources including mountains, rivers and the sea, the city has furthered the development of its high-class tourism services.

Another tourism expert said that Da Nang has developed its tourism sector in the right direction and remarkably quickly over recent years.  Importance has been attached to enhancing the sense of responsibility and active involvement of the local tourism associations and businesses in furthering the local tourism sector.  The seaside city is making every effort to become the tourism hub of the region, and of the country as a whole, in the near future.
