Host team Da Nang – Viet Nam and Fireevent Die Feuerwerker from Austria sparked the opening night of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2017 on 30 April with their specular performances in the sky of the city.

A performance by Da Nang – Viet Nam team

The host’s performance was based on five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth as traditional philosophy.

It symbols were everlasting existence, development of Viet Nam, as well as the city’s iconic landmarks – Marble Mountains – a local popular attraction.

The visiting team from Austria lit up the city’s sky with their fireworks performance, accompanied by a romantic waltz and classical music.

The team emphasised their desire for peace on earth at the festival during a 20-minute fireworks display.

The festival’s General Director Le Quy Duong said the event would attract over 2 million tourists between April and June.

The festival was seen as a renewal, following the previous 7 events on the Han River.

According to festival organisers, the festival was assigned for a two-month long period for tourists arranging their holiday schedules between April and June, instead of only a two-night performance, as in previous events.

As planned, the Tamaya Katahara Fireworks team from Japan and Sugyp from Switzerland will continue on the 2nd night on 20 May.

China’s Dancing Fireworks Group and Pyrotex Fireworx team from the UK will spark the 3rdnight performance on 27 May.  Howard&Sons Pyrotechnics from Australia and Italy’s Martarello will stage the 4th night performance on 3 June.

The festival orgnaniser, the Sun Group, said each night’s performance will reserve 13,000 tickets, including 8,000 seats, at four main stands.

The best teams will compete in the final rounds on 24 June.

The festival is being held under the title ‘Toa Sang Ngu Hanh Son’ (Shining Marble Mountains).

Mr Dang Minh Truong, the General Director of Sun Group, the fireworks festival organiser, said the event will be one of the key events prior to the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 in Da Nang in November.

The fireworks festival was held annually from 2008 until 2013, then biennially from 2015.

Teams from the US and Italy have twice won, while Canada, China and France clinched the title once.

Da Nang received an award for Asia’s Leading Festival and Event at the World Travel Awards ceremony, and was named among the Top 10 Holiday Destinations in Asia by Smart Travel Asia – an online tourism magazine for Asia last year.

Last year the city welcomed 5.6 million tourists, 1.67 million of whom were foreigners.

The city has reserved more than 16,000 rooms in preparation for the fireworks festival.

Marble Mountains – an ideal place for adventure lovers

Following approval by the Da Nang authorities, the Viet Adventure Joint Stock Company recently introduced some adventure tourism activities at the Marble Mountains, especially descending from the Thuy Son peak by using ropes.

Mr Tran Van Khanh, a professional climbing instructor, said that he and his colleagues always instruct participants about how to use ropes and other types of equipment properly, and offer descending technique tips.  In addition to checking protective equipment to ensure the safety of climbers, instructors also consistently reassure climbers who need to overcome the fear of unexpected falls.

A group of senior high school pupils from Australia recently participated in this adventurous activity.  The participants were really excited but nervous to be descending the 30m-high Thuy Son Mount using ropes which are anchored above.

15-year-old Lucas Gualano said that he felt very happy as he faced the challenge of descending the mountain amidst the enthusiastic cheers of his friends.  This adventurous game really helped him to feel good about himself.

The company’s Director, Vo Duc Trung, said that his company had conducted many topographical surveys and had implemented numerous mountain climbing exercises on a trial basis at this popular attraction before the new service was introduced.  The company will give top priority to offering this climbing service to foreigners who are accustomed to this type of adventurous sport.

Mr Trung remarked that mountaineering is very attractive to visitors to the Marble Mountains.  It is also very useful for international pupils who can enhance their life skills, self-confidence, and determination to overcome challenges.

The Marble Mountains boast great potential for developing a wide range of adventure sports thanks to the special and diversified natural topography.  Mr Trung, therefore, proposed that a centre for adventure sports should be established there.  He added that his company will introduce mountain climbing there, at different challenge levels, very soon.

To promote this environmentally friendly tourism product, Mr Trung suggested that importance should be attached to ensuring international standard equipment, developing professional instructors and organising climbing activities which match different terrains.

Han River landscape designs assessed

On Thursday, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho attended a meeting to assess the entries in an international contest to design the landscaping alongside the Han River.

Chairman Tho remarked, “The municipal authorities have invited many famous design units from both home and abroad to participate in this international-level contest.  It provides a great opportunity for those who love Da Nang to submit their ideas for landscape improvements along both banks of the river in order to develop them as popular attractions in the future.”

The city leader also underlined the need for entrants to promote local historical and cultural traditions, and ensure a harmonious combination between the project’s modern architectural innovations and the preservation of the natural values of the river.  This aims to ensure sustainable economic development for the city.

Some selected entrants presented their ideas at the event.  In particular, the first group of designers left a deep impression on the contest’s Selection Council with their ‘Green Han River’ entry.

The second architectural design depicted the river as a symbol of the developing urbanisation and climate change.  The work featured a harmonious combination between the modern and traditional characteristics of the city in order to create a peaceful space in the upstream parts of the Cau Do River.

The third idea proposed that there should be no more bridges built across the river because there are already many architectural works along the river, including beautiful bridges and tall impressive buildings.  This conveyed the message of helping the Han River to have its own identity, and making it a picturesque landscape.

The fourth group of designers wanted to develop the river into a ‘green corridor’ by setting up a green area.

During the first 12 days after the launch, the contest’s organisers received 39 registrations from 13 domestic registrants, including 4 from Da Nang itself, 12 joint ventures between Vietnamese and foreign businesses, and 14 joint ventures from international businesses.

The international dossiers were from France, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

After 2 rounds of selection, the contest’s Selection Council has finally chosen the 7 most outstanding projects for further consideration.

Traffic infrastructure sees tremendous changes

posted Sep 3, 2016, 6:33 PM by Danang Beach

Over the past 20 years, Da Nang has seen tremendous changes in its traffic infrastructure, which have significantly improved the city’s socio-economic development.

The city is now famous for its amazing and unique bridges.  There are many bridges spanning the Han River, and they all feature unique architectural characteristics when compared with others nationwide.

The construction of the Han River Swing Bridge, which officially opened to traffic on 29 March 2000, marked an important milestone in the development of the local traffic infrastructure.

Following the success of this bridge, other bridges have since been built across the river.  Notable are the Thuan Phuoc, Tuyen Son, Rong (Dragon) and Tran Thi Ly bridges.  The stunning beauty of these bridges makes the river sparkle and look very beautiful at night, which helps to attract more visitors to the city.

The 3-level Hue T-junction overpass, the largest of its kind in Viet Nam, officially opened to traffic on 29 March 2015 to mark the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang.

The city authorities have recently revealed plans to construct a road tunnel for Tran Phu, at the western end of the Han River bridge, and one at the junction of Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong and Le Do.  These tunnels will help to ease the current traffic congestion in the inner-city.

In addition to gathering opinions from local residents and experts, the city authorities have approved a contest to design a road tunnel under the Han River.  The contest will be open to any domestic and foreign individuals and organisations.  The new tunnel will run under the river from the roundabout junction of Bach Dang, 3 February and Nhu Nguyet streets in Hai Chau District to the intersection of Tran Hung Dao, Van Don and Tran Thanh Tong streets on the eastern bank.

Over the past 20 years, a total of 800 roads have been built or upgraded, which has ensured the smooth movement of vehicles from the city centre to the outer rural and mountainous areas.

The 1st stage of a ring road on the southern side of the city has been completed, whilst site clearance work is now underway to begin the project’s 2nd phase.  Also, the northwest approach road to the Hue T-junction overpass, and the north-west traffic axis No 1, have both been completed.

In addition to the building of the city’s Tran Dai Nghia Street connecting with Hoi An and Dien Ban District, both in Quang Nam Province, a section of the 14B Highway linking the city’s Tuy Loan village and the province’s Ha Nha Bridge has been widened.

As for transport links north to Thua Thien-Hue Province, a new road tunnel will be constructed under the Hai Van Pass.  The new tunnel will be parallel to the existing one, and it will help to considerably shorten the travel time between the 2 localities.
